Abstract
This research, titled "Packaging Innovation of Traditional Palembang Cakes as Exclusive Souvenirs," aims to enhance the appeal and market value of traditional cakes as distinctive regional souvenirs by addressing the main issue of outdated packaging designs that do not effectively represent Palembang’s cultural identity in a visual and informative manner. To solve this, the study proposes packaging that is aesthetically appealing, practical, functional, and rich in local cultural values, using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) with data gathered through field observations, interviews with business owners, and validations from design experts and consumers. The findings show that the new packaging successfully highlights Palembang’s identity through visual elements such as songket patterns, local icons, regional illustrations, and cultural colors, while also being safe, practical, and supportive of product marketing. This packaging is considered a more representative and informative souvenir alternative, and the study concludes that such design can strengthen the image of local culture and improve the competitiveness of MSMEs, with a recommendation to maintain design quality and develop packaging variations for other product types to better meet market demands.
